FORSCHUNGSPROJEKT ZU DOOM METAL

Hallo! Ich bin Musikwissenschaftler und beschäftige mich mit Populärmusik. Im Jahr 2023 habe ich an der Universität Wien promoviert und zuvor habe ich einen Bachelor in Musiktheorie und einen Master in Musikwissenschaft an der Universität Chile absolviert. Seit 20 Jahren bin ich Doom Metal-Fan und möchte meine Begeisterung für diese Musik nun auch in meiner wissenschaftlichen Arbeit zum Ausdruck bringen. Link zur ganzen Biografie
Worum es geht
Mit diesem Projekt habe ich vor, die Konzepte, Vorstellungen, Interpretationen und Erfahrungen des Publikums sowie der Musizierenden von Doom Metal zu untersuchen. Ich möchte herausfinden, welche Erlebnisse und Eindrücke für Fans und Musiker:innen im Vordergrund stehen, was Menschen dazu motiviert, Doom Metal zu hören oder zu machen, welche persönliche Bedeutung diese Musik für sie einnimt und welche Rolle Doom Metal in ihrem sozialen Leben spielt.
Um dies herauszufinden, führe ich Interviews, nehme an Konzerten und anderen Events teil, sammele Materialien und mache mir Notizen. Die Ergebnisse dieser Forschung werden in Artikeln und Büchern veröffentlicht und auf wissenschaftlichen Konferenzen präsentiert. RESEARCH PROJECT ON DOOM METAL
Principal investigator: Pablo Rojas
Hello! I am a musicologist specialising in popular music. In 2023, I received my PhD from the University of Vienna, and previously, I completed a bachelor’s degree in music theory and a master’s degree in musicology at the University of Chile. I have been a Doom Metal fan for 20 years and now I want to incorporate my enthusiasm for this music into my academic work. Link to full bio
What is about
With this project I plan to examine the concepts, ideas, interpretations, and experiences of the audience and musicians of Doom Metal. I would like to find out which experiences and perceptions are the most important for fans and musicians, what motivates people to listen to, play, or make Doom Metal, what personal meaning this music has for them, and what role Doom Metal plays in their social lives.
To explore this, I conduct interviews, attend concerts and other events, gather materials, and take field notes. I will publish the findings of this research in articles and books, and will present them at academic conferences.
